Rugged Repairs of the Week
Being located in New York means the Concierge sees its fair share of slick footwear. High heels, ankle boots, leather loafers, business shoes – these city streets are filled with every style under the sun. What we don’t often see Manhattanites getting around in are rugged, all-purpose boots. This week, we turned around not one but two pairs of hard-wearing footwear built for rough terrain.
The first, a pair of cowboy boots came in replete with scuffed leather, loose exterior stitching and roughed-up soles. This was a top-to-toe job, as the boots had intricate detailing that also required mending. The cobblers replaced the entire sole and stitched on new black leather to match the original. The leather skin on the last was buffed and polished, respecting the top-stitch design.
After much action the second pair, a suede hiking style, needed particular attention paid to its treads. As any hiker will tell you, there’s no underestimating a durable pair of boots on the trail; once you find yours, upkeep is critical. In addition to new soles, this pair needed a thorough clean to rinse any dirty residue off its hide.
