Ferragamo Embedding Microchips in Shoes & Bags
Ferragamo isn’t taking any chances when it comes to counterfeit goods: the Italian label is inserting microchips into its accessories to track fakes and up resale value.
The ultra chic line has been embedding microchips in the left sole of shoes since 2014, according to Bloomberg, and has now expanded to men’s footwear, luggage and leather goods.
Like many luxury brands, Ferragamo is focusing its sights on sales in Asia, which has led to a crackdown on counterfeits throughout the continent, specifically in China where $17 million worth of fakes were confiscated or destroyed just last year.
The microchip makes it even easier to identify the real heel from the faux, and also boosts the resale value for fashion lovers who turn to sites like eBay to purge their closets.
The Concierge might be flooded with women’s Louboutins, but Ferragamo’s leather loafers dominate in the men’s market. Timeless and understated, the casual style is a sure-fire hit for fashion lovers, young or old. In addition to the signature low-heel and crisp bow design for women, the brand is showing block heels and bold brights for spring.
