Favorite Shoes: There are too many favorites!
The pair you stash at your desk: A pair of nude heels and gold flats in case something happens to the shoes I am wearing
First shoe memory: I used to wear my mom’s heels when I was a little girl around the house, but no matter how many times I begged for a pair of my own high heels, she would always say I was too young. I spent my childhood summers in Portugal and finally one day when I was around 12 I talked my grandmother into buying me a pair. I will never forget the store and the nude sling back heel that I convinced her was made for me (and a necessity). That day…the phrase “but I really need these shoes” was born.
Style icon(s): Miroslava Duma, Olivia Palermo, and Hanneli Mustaparta
Why… [They] optimize chic, sophisticated, and polished looks at all times, whether mixing new trends or classic looks. They experiment with fashion every single day and do what works for them. I think we all need to be bold and expressive with our wardrobes.
Favorite designers: Delpozo, Proenza Schouler, Givenchy, Balmain, Chanel, Christopher Kane, Giambattista Valli, Emilio Pucci, and Mary Katrantzou…..I could go on and on.
What shoes do you pack for summer vacation? I pack quite a few pairs of flats whether you are walking around a new city or at the beach and then I try to pack 2-3 pairs of night time heels. A classic nude that will go with everything and then 1 or 2 pairs that are a little more bold and flirty for dinners and a night out
Best fashion advice you’ve been given or give: Wear clothing that fits your body type and realize no matter what size and shape you are, we all need to adjust to our figure.
For shoes, I would say, if you can’t walk in heels without looking completely uncomfortable, just don’t wear them! There are so many amazing flats these days or short heel options
Heels or Flats: Heels!
Trend to skip: I think everyone should follow whatever trend they feel inspired by - what works for me may not work for someone else and that’s what makes fashion interesting.
Online or In-person shopping: Online – order a ton of items and have the convenience to try on at home while having all accessories on hand to see if the look works for you. Today most stores make it so easy to return with no hassle.
NY go-to: Dinner – Park Ave Summer, Buddakan, Lupulo, White Street, Tao, Otto, Hudson Clearwater, Carbone, and Birds & Bubbles
Nightlife – The Roof, Top of the Standard, Tao Downtown and Edition Hotel Lobby Bar
What are you reading/watching:
Reading – I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou
Watching – Right now I would have to say Game of Thrones, Vice, Real Time with Bill Maher, Real Housewives, Ellen, House of Cards and can not wait to start watching True Detective.
Biggest save/splurge purchase:
My biggest splurge was when I first started working out of college and bought a black Dior bag. I had never spent that much on a single item, but had been obsessing over it for months. When I saw it on sale, I knew it was a sign and bought it. Almost 10 years later, it still looks like new and I know I will have it forever. Taught me about investing in the right pieces that will last a lifetime.
